National Cement Company trying to muscle the United Steelworkers under the guise of healthcare

The United Steelworkers 44th union district located in Birmingham is protesting a proposed contract between the group and its employer, National Cement Co. Having been without a contract for over a year, the “union local” now protests the proposed arrangement which stands to increase the costs of employee health insurance rates substantially. National Cement officials claim that the offer reflects a rise in health insurance costs. Increased cost might excuse increased rates, but an 80-170% increase under the proposed offer’s terms is simply surreal. Now, the union’s efforts comprise of peaceful protests as members sacrifice vacation/sick days to voice concerns.
