Community Involvement

Birmingham, AL Lawyers

Birmingham isn’t just the location of our office. The Wininger Law Firm, LLC is proud to contribute to and be a part of the Birmingham community. One way we support our area is to help our clients move forward with their lives after a serious injury. We also do our part to make Birmingham the best place it can be. We put our love for our community into action every day. You can, too.

Rickwood Field

David D. Wininger has been on the board of Rickwood Field for decades. The stadium is one of the city’s top attractions and one of the country’s most historic baseball stadiums. It was the creation of industrialist Rick Woodward.

While still in his 20s, Woodward bought the city’s professional baseball team, the Coal Barons. Baseball Hall of Famer Connie Mack designed “The Finest Minor League Ballpark Ever,” which opened in 1910. The stadium was also the home of the American Negro League’s Black Barons.

Rickwood Field has hosted some of the greatest baseball players in history. Standing-room-only crowds watched future hall of famers like Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Dizzy Dean, and Roger Hornsby.

The Black Barons also drew overflow crowds. The Black Barons and their opponents featured the best players in the league. Some of those playing in Rickwood Field were American Negro League home run record holder George “Mule” Suttles, Bill Foster, Leroy “Satchel” Paige, and Charlie Pride (who later became a country music star).

American Baseball Foundation

David is also a long-time member of the board of the American Baseball Foundation. It’s a nationally and internationally recognized organization co-founded by sports medicine physician James R. Andrews, M.D. Its vision is to educate children through sports-based academics.

The foundation’s program requires engagement and determination. It’s more of a summer camp than a school. Students from grades one through eight rotate their time between sports-related academics and learning sports skills. Reading and math are mixed with baseball, softball, volleyball, and soccer.

New York Yankees Mural

Created by Stephen A. Smith, the New York Yankees mural that is on the firm’s building dominates the cityscape on Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North. It features Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter, and Yogi Berra. The mural is the result of a lifetime connection to the team by the Wininger family.

David has been pulling for the Yankees since he was a child. From the time he was a boy of eight all the way through when he was 12, the team won the World Series Championship every year. While on a trip to the Portland, Oregon, area, his family passed a beautiful mural depicting angels on the side of a building. In that moment, a seed of an idea was born: a city with large murals on walls and buildings is more inviting to its residents and tourists alike. The mural was completed in 2012.

Birmingham Artcycle

The Wininger Law Firm, LLC, is the home of the Birmingham Artcycle. It offers free, donated art supplies that can be recycled into art rather than being added to landfills. We believe in supporting a fully rounded educational experience for our community’s youth – both in and outside the classroom. Access to the arts helps Birmingham’s children foster their creative growth.

The Whilldin Building

The firm is in The Whilldin Building, the former office of one of the state’s most influential architects, David Oliver Whilldin. The structure was finished in 1924 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Wininger Law Firm, LLC, is proud to have renovated the building so it can be enjoyed now and in the future by Birmingham residents and visitors.

The Whilldin Building was Mr. Whilldin’s office, and we are proud to use the same space for our office today. Several of Whilldin’s other buildings are also on the National Register of Historic Places. Other designs include Legion Field and schools that are part of the Birmingham City Schools district.

Our Team Supports Birmingham

The Wininger Law Firm, LLC, is proud to help the Birmingham community in many ways. We are dedicated to providing paths for Birmingham’s children, especially, to grow. Our involvement in the American Baseball Foundation gives kids exposure to sports in a learning environment, and our support of Artcycle means local children can learn to create while they also learn traditional subjects in the classroom. We are also dedicated to helping our Birmingham community professionally. We know how much a terrible injury can change a person’s life and that of their loved ones. That’s why we put our skills to work to ensure that they get all the compensation they deserve so they can move forward with their lives.
