FINALLY!! OUR HARD WORKING FIREFIGHTERS GET THEIR DUE!

I have been fortunate over the years to represent several firefighters who have suffered sometimes critical and permanent injuries while working on the job. I can think of few other professions which demand so much from its workers, often with life and death decisions hanging in the balance.

Often Firefighters are injured while attempting to rescue and transport morbidly obese patients, who often weigh in excess of 400 pounds. The Homewood Fire Department has taken a proactive stance, to protect its firefighters. Battalion Chief Brian Bonner trains his employees to use their leg muscles rather than straining their backs. The firefighters are also instructed to call for backup and additional crews when dealing with obese patients.

In the long run, the City saves money by reducing injuries to employees and the associated costs of rehabilitation and recovery time.

Congratulations to Homewood for a wise decision!
