Faulty or Defective Product Alert: Recalls Issued by Subaru, Honda and Nissan

Subaru of America is recalling over 32,000 Legacy, Outback and Impreza models for brake master cylinder malfunctions. The recall begins this month (December 2011).

The brake malfunction has the potential of increasing the amount of “brake pedal travel distance required to slow or stop the vehicle.” The problem may occur unexpectedly and poses the risk for crash hazard.

Subaru owners may take their vehicle to a dealer for inspection and the brake master cylinder will be replaced free of charge, if necessary. Owners may contact Subaru at 1-800-782-2783.

The recall includes Legacy and Outback vehicles manufactured from October 17, 2011 through November 23, 2011. The recall also includes the following 2012 Impreza sedans and wagons which were manufactured from April 21, 2011 through November 15, 2011. (excluding WRX/STI models): 11V-557, 11V-558, 11V-559, 11V-560, 11V-561.

Honda Motor Company is expanding its recall of vehicles with air-bag problems. The recall affects approximately 2 million vehicles around the globe. Honda reports that there have been two fatalities and 20 accidents related to the faulty airbags. The deaths occurred in 2009.

According to the Associated Press, “Honda is recalling 304,000 of its 2001-02 Accord, Civic, Odyssey, Pilot, CR-V and other models for air bags that might inflate with too much pressure in a crash, send metal and plastic pieces flying and cause injuries or deaths.”

Honda owners may also present their vehicles to the dealers for inspection and a free replacement of parts, if necessary. The Honda recall begins in January 2012.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a recall of over 7,300 Nissan Rogue crossover SUVS which were manufactured between August 2011 and October 2011. The circuit boards controlling the power steering may have been installed incorrectly.
